Psychiatrist

Dr. Jill Abram, a board-certified psychiatrist from Indiana, has dedicated 38 years to advancing the field of psychiatry, particularly in child and adolescent mental health. Her extensive career is marked by her commitment to using her skills to heal and restore the well-being of communities, families, and individuals, liaising with other health professionals to uphold the highest standards of psychiatric care.

She began her career by impacting many lives at the Homeless Mobile Team at the Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis, where she served for two years from 1988 to 1990. She continued her work with the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana, until 1996. Following this period, she entered private practice in Fishers, Indiana, and also served as the psychiatrist at the historic Pleasant Run Children's Home in Indianapolis.

Her professional journey included nearly seven years in private practice in Anderson, during which she also held roles as the adolescent psychiatrist at the Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility. Additionally, she offered her expertise as the psychiatric consulting physician at Fortville Christian Youth Home.

Her career also spanned roles in Indianapolis, including private practice, serving as a psychiatrist at the Counseling Center Christian Theological Seminary and the Family Counseling Center. She was a consulting adolescent psychiatrist at Richmond State Hospital and collaborated with the Medical Staff Community Hospitals of Indianapolis.

She also contributed as a consultant at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska and was part of the medical staff at North Star Hospital in Anchorage. Her work through the Four County Counseling Center helped initiate psychiatric telemedicine services in Peru, Kokomo, and Logansport, Indiana.

Her notable experiences include developing a coordinated care system with the Department of Mental Health and consulting with the Department of Education and the Department of Families and Children. She also consulted with the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center and participated in the Conscience Development Research and Study Group and a Trauma and Dissociation study group.

Academically, Jill Abram graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hanover College with a B.A. in Chemistry and minors in Biology and Psychology. Her medical education at Indiana University School of Medicine included a year of research and notable recognitions, such as representing her university at the National Juvenile Diabetes Association and receiving the Academic Medicine Achievement Award.

She completed her residencies and fellowship in Family Practice and Psychiatry at St. Francis Hospital and Indiana University School of Medicine, respectively, earning the Golden Apple Award in 1990 for her educational contributions. She completed a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the same institution.

Before retiring, she was licensed in Indiana and Alaska and is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Since June 1991, she has been a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, contributing through publications in the Journal of Endocrinology and the Journal of Diabetes. Dr. Jill Abram's career exemplifies a lifelong dedication to improving mental health care and education.
